Conference interpreting

What is conference interpreting?

Conference interpreting is not just about translating words orally into another language but rather conveying the ideas of the speaker. The objective is for the interpreted message to have exactly the same impact on the foreign listener as on the recipient of the original message. This should be done by an expert in intercultural communication, as conference interpreting requires not only excellent language skills but also thorough knowledge of the cultures between which the message is conveyed.

What do I offer?

As a conference interpreter and an expert in intercultural communication I am there to guarantee successful interaction at events such as international conferences and business negotiations. I offer both simultaneous and consecutive interpretation as well as chuchotage (whispered interpretation). A few examples of meetings I interpret in are listed below:

  • sessions of the European Parliament
  • meetings of the European Commission
  • meetings of the Council of the European Union
  • European Works Councils (EWCs)
  • production plant visits
  • television broadcasts
  • press conferences
  • marketing training courses
  • product launches

I am happy to provide you with a no-obligation quotation and offer you advice on which interpretation mode (simultaneous/consecutive/whispered) best suits your needs as well as on what kind of technical equipment will be required. Fees for conference interpreting are generally charged by day, plus travel and accommodation costs. The daily rate includes in addition to the actual interpreting service on the spot careful preparation of the assignment, thorough familiarisation with the topic and of the specific terminology required as well as a post-assignment terminology update.

Confidentiality is extremely important to me as a conference interpreter. All customer information and documents are treated as strictly confidential. I am bound by the Code of Practice and Ethics (in German) of the German Association of Conference Interpreters (VKD im BDÜ e.V.) of which I am a member.
